What Happened in South Africa
RCL Foods recalled more than 55,000 bags of dry dog and cat food, brands including Bobtail, Ultra Pet, Optimizor, Superwoof, Canine Cuisine, and Catmor after detecting dangerously high levels of DON, a mycotoxin commonly associated with contaminated maize crops.
Affected batches were produced between 26–29 May, 4–5 June, and 17 June 2025.

DON is not a “minor contaminant.” It causes:
