This product was designed after taking into account human nutrient intakes in the US, which reveal common nutrient insufficiencies, upper tolerable levels of intake (established by the Institute of Medicine) and most importantly, principles of evolutionary biology and human physiological adaptation to a whole food, nutrient-dense diet. There were no established levels in dogs and cats, so I extrapolated the information to dogs and cats.
I included a tocopherol-free form of vitamin E isomers (a blend of gamma- and delta-tocotrienols, which have unique health benefits and support healthy aging) and a unique blend of vitamin K1 with various forms of vitamin K2.
I included a natural form of folate that addresses common genetic polymorphisms, and an effective dose of vitamin B12 to help overcome various malabsorption syndromes.
Calcium, magnesium, zinc, manganese, molybdenum, chromium, iron, copper and boron are provided as highly bioavailable chelates. Mineral chelates do not depend on stomach acid for liberation Chelated minerals are designed to bypass obstacles to absorption and assimilation, such as food phytates, oxalates, fiber, ionic minerals, and medications that interfere with mineral absorption. Chelates are often better tolerated and absorbed and are less likely to cause loose stools or other gastrointestinal discomfort.
The vitamin mineral industry is a wild west frontier. The RDA (recommended daily allowance) was developed for humans and represents the minimum levels tp prevent disease, not the amount needed to optimize health and physiological function and reduce the risks for age- or lifestyle-related degenerative diseases. I extrapolated the data and designed a product to provide the levels of essential nutrients needed to optimize health and healing.
