Your Pet’s Health is a Sum of Its Parts!

Understanding The W•holistic Approach!

The current medical model (veterinary and human) is focused on symptom management and symptom suppression. Though crisis management and symptom suppression may have a role, it is absolutely wrong to not pursue identifying, understanding and resolving the root causes of the dis-ease.

For example, a pet that has chronic itching, chronic ear infections or chronic skin dis-ease, the allopathic approach is to prescribe immunosuppressive medications to alleviate the symptoms. While this can provide temporary relief, it doesn’t resolve the underlying issue which is almost always related to toxin exposure causing “leaky gut syndrome.” Leaky gut results in excessive inflammation and inflammation affects the weakest link in the body, which for dogs and cats is often the skin and ears (the ear canal is lined by skin and stuck down a deep dark hole).

A W•holistic approach emphasizes identifying and addressing the root causes of dis-ease, which are deficiencies of essential nutrients, excessive exposure to toxins (most often it is a combination of the two) and mitochondrial dysfunction.

By looking at the whole picture – diet, lifestyle, environment, emotional well-being, and more – the aim is to resolve the foundational issues that contribute to health problems. This means instead of just suppressing symptoms, we’re working to restore balance and promote lasting wellness.  Testing is also performed (test don’t guess) to identify the deficiencies and toxicities, allowing for targeted therapy of the root cause of dis-ease.

To manage the pet’s symptoms, I recommend safe and effective alternatives to steroids and immunosuppressive drugs such as Ozone therapy, Laser therapy, salt/halo therapy, herbs and essential oils.

When I talk about W•holistic health, I’m referring to a philosophy that views your pet’s health as a whole, interconnected system. Our fur babies have a mind-body-spirit connection like humans. This approach emphasizes understanding the interconnections between physical, emotional, environmental, and even spiritual aspects of your pet’s well-being.

Instead of focusing solely on symptoms, W•holistic health aims to create a harmonious balance that supports your pet’s entire being.

Key Components of W•holistic Health

  1. Nutritional Wellness: Modern pet diets often lack essential nutrients due to foods grown on depleted soils. Many companies add synthetic additives to the diet making the ingredient list “look good” but it may not be biologically available to the body. A species-appropriate, nutrient-rich diet is crucial. Supplementation helps ensure your pet gets the vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and amino acids they need to thrive.
  2. Toxin Reduction: Pets face daily exposure to environmental toxins. Reducing these exposures and using detoxification technologies like infrared therapy, ozone therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy can help maintain your pet’s health and support their natural organs of detoxification.

  3. Mitochondrial Health: Mitochondria are the powerhouses of the cells, crucial for energy production and overall health. Energy production is powered by full spectrum sunlight!  Being outside in the sun at the right times of day is critical to proper energy production and cell health, but most pets are indoors all day while their human parents are at work, creating a light deficiency.  Utilizing full spectrum light along with supplements that promote redox signaling (improved communication between the mitochondria and the microbiome) supports mitochondrial function and gene expression.
  4. Stress Management: Stress can have a significant negative impact on your pet’s health. Stress activates the sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system which is responsible for fight or flight and the release of cortisol.  Healing occurs when the parasympathetic side of the Autonomic nervous system is activated which is responsible for digesting, repairing and detoxifying. Promote a parasympathetic state by creating a calm, safe and nurturing environment. Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Therapy can also promote a parasympathetic state.
  5. Preventive Care: Regular health check-ups,  targeted lab testing, ultrasound and thermography are a few diagnostics that are safe and effective in identifying early dis-ease.
